Chimney Stacks
Chimneystacks are a favourite place for Seagulls to build nests. The nest site will either be behind the stack in the V-shaped area or crook where the base of the chimney stack meets the roof tiles, or, where the chimney has a double row of pots, in between the pots on top of the chimney
Which species can cause problems?
Seagulls (Herring Gulls & Black-Backed Gulls)
What are the problems?
Noise pollution invading the living space causing sleepless nights for occupants
Dampness caused by old nest sites absorbing and retaining moisture against the building fabric
Gutters blocking up with nest debris, food scraps and feathers that roll down the pitched roof and collect in the gutters.
Aggressive behaviour towards any humans approaching the property during the nesting season
Nests in between chimney pots can smother gas boiler flues causing a risk of carbon monoxide fumes escaping internally.
Baby seagulls can fall off chimneys into gardens resulting in parents attacking you or worse still fall down the chimney and into the house whilst you are away.
TV aerials become damaged from gulls landing on them before dropping down to their nests
How can I stop the problem?
Light Pressure areas where gulls have not yet nested
Seagull Spikes
Chimney Guards
Heavy Pressure areas where gulls have already nested
Chimney Nets
